Earlier this week we reported about the FIL’s decision of having the 2018 FIL men’s WLC in England, Manchester for the second time after 2010. One year prior to this event the 2017 FIL women’s field lacrosse WC will be hosted in England, in Guildford, Surrey. All these events cover outdoor/field lacrosse and will surly help to Grow The Game in England and Europe. If you take a close look at all these great events something is missing. Any ideas? Yep, Box lacrosse is missing somehow. The WILC 2015 in the US is the only event on a national level in the upcoming years and we feel that this is simply not enough for the fast growing box lacrosse community in Europe. Luckily the Dresden Braves released great news today and we are more than delighted to share it with you:
Press Release ELF European Nations Cup 2015 Men’s Indoor Lacrosse in Dresden
The Dresden Braves Lacrosse Club is proud to present the first steps towards hosting and organising a new event in the European Lacrosse world, the ELF European Nations Cup 2015 (ENC) for Men’s Indoor Lacrosse. The Braves’ organisation team that successfully hosts one of Europe’s biggest box lacrosse tournaments, the Lax in the Box, handed in the application for the event in spring 2013 to the board of the European Lacrosse Federation (ELF). The application included a concept that is based on the growth of box lacrosse in Europe and the development of competition among European national teams. The ENC will be dedicated to develop European national teams and also provide a good opportunity for teams to prepare for the WILC in July 2015 in the USA. Furthermore, the ENC is planned as a test prior to a European Indoor Lacrosse Championships (EILC) in 2017. Assuming a successful ENC 2015, the Dresden Braves plan to host the EILC 2017 as well. While the EILC would take place in summer 2017 (June or July and not during the women’s field WC in England) the ENC will take place instead of the Lax in the Box in May 2015. The ELF board passed the application concordant with the condition of permitting an election about the EILC 2017 on the basis of a successful ENC in 2015. The Braves will provide transparency of the organisation process and report to the ELF board biannually. The process will be supported strongly by ELF Boxlacrosse coordinator Sean Gibbson and the ELF board.
Further details about the events, how to apply and the general concept will be uploaded soon on the Dresden Braves Webpage www.dresden-braves.de
After the FIL WILC 2011 that was hosted by the Czech Republic in Prague, box lacrosse will finally get another great event in Europe dedicated to the European lacrosse nations. We are excited to see the game of Box grow in Europe and will look forward to see some new faces in the European Boxworld at the ENC in 2015 and EILC 2017 in Dresden. We will keep you in the loop.
Maybe the Cup of the EILC will look as appealing as the Lax in the Box trophy
